STANFORD, Calif. -- The No. 11 Iowa State gymnastics team captured second place with a season-high score of 196.075 at the Stanford quadrangular meet Friday night. Iowa State defeated No. 15 Oregon State (194.100) and San Jose State (193.1175), but fell to fifth-ranked Stanford (197.275), who took the title.
ISU set a team season-high score on vault (49.175), led by senior Janet Anson's season-high 9.900. Anson's score placed her in a three-way tie for first place. Megan Barnes took fourth-place honors on vault with a 9.875.
On the uneven bars, Anson and fellow senior Katie Lasher were part of a six-way tie for second place with a score of 9.875. In first place was Stanford's Carly Jangia (9.950).
Freshman Katie Sweetin led the Iowa State beam team with a season-high 9.900, taking third-place. Melanie Tham also notched a season high, scoring 9.800.
Jasmine Thompson also scored a season high as she led the Cyclones on floor with an 9.875.
In the all-around, Anson (39.450), Barnes (39.050) and Thompson (39.00), all scored season highs to contribute to Iowa State's highest team score of the season.
The Cardinal was led by Nicole Ourada's 39.575 all-around performance and Alex Pintchouk's 39.450.
The Cyclones return home to Hilton Coliseum and play host to Oklahoma Friday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m.
