No. 6 Kansas Too Much For Iowa State

LAWRENCE, Kan.?Kansas showed why it is one of the best teams in the country on Saturday. The sixth-ranked Jayhawks shot 52.2 percent from the field and held ISU to 32.7 percent en route to an 89-52 victory in Allen Fieldhouse. The loss drops the Cyclones to 14-14 overall and 5-9 in Big 12 play.

“It was a mismatch today,” ISU head coach Greg McDermott said. “Physically, mentally and from a hustle standpoint, we were defeated in every aspect of the game. The credit goes to Kansas. We started the game like we wanted to, but it got away from us after that.”

Another cold start hurt ISU in the beginning, falling behind 11-4 with 11:53 left in the first half, as the Cyclones made just 2-of-11 from the field and committed four turnovers during that span. KU tacked on a 9-0 run behind a pair of baskets from Darrell Arthur to make it a 20-4 ballgame before Mike Taylor stopped the run with a scoring drive for the Cyclones.

The Jayhawks held a 41-15 halftime advantage, as ISU shot just 17.9 percent (5-28 FG) in the first period. ISU's 15 points in the first half is the lowest half total for a Cyclone team since scoring 14 points in the first period at Texas Tech (Feb. 2, 2002).

KU continued its hot shooting in the second half, connecting on eight of its first nine shots to go up, 59-22 with 14:02 left in the contest. Meanwhile, ISU remained cold and careless with the ball, committing 19 turnovers for the game. The Cyclones finished the contest under 40 percent from the floor for the 11^th time this season.

Dodie Dunson scored eight points to lead ISU, marking the second time in league play where Dunson was ISU's high scorer. Mike Taylor totaled seven points. Taylor increased his school record streak of consecutive games with a 3-pointer to 24, going 1-for-5 from beyond the arc. Jiri Hubalek tallied a game-high nine boards to pace ISU on the glass, but the Cyclones were outboarded 47-30 for the game.

ISU travels to Nebraska on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

- Mike Taylor has now made a 3-pointer in a school-record 24-straight games.
