Another cold start hurt ISU in the beginning, falling behind 11-4 with 11:53 left in the first half, as the Cyclones made just 2-of-11 from the field and committed four turnovers during that span. KU tacked on a 9-0 run behind a pair of baskets from Darrell Arthur to make it a 20-4 ballgame before Mike Taylor stopped the run with a scoring drive for the Cyclones.
The Jayhawks held a 41-15 halftime advantage, as ISU shot just 17.9 percent (5-28 FG) in the first period. ISU's 15 points in the first half is the lowest half total for a Cyclone team since scoring 14 points in the first period at Texas Tech (Feb. 2, 2002).
KU continued its hot shooting in the second half, connecting on eight of its first nine shots to go up, 59-22 with 14:02 left in the contest. Meanwhile, ISU remained cold and careless with the ball, committing 19 turnovers for the game. The Cyclones finished the contest under 40 percent from the floor for the 11th time this season.
Dodie Dunson scored eight points to lead ISU, marking the second time in league play where Dunson was ISU's high scorer. Mike Taylor totaled seven points.
