Missouri Downs Iowa State, 77-55

AMES, Iowa?Missouri shot 66.7 percent from the field in the second half and forced 16 Iowa State turnovers en route to a 77-55 victory Tuesday night in Hilton Coliseum. The loss, which drops ISU to 12-11 overall and 3-6 in Big 12 play, ends ISU's seven-game win streak against the Tigers in Hilton Coliseum.

"Tonight we were lackluster in every phase of the game," ISU head coach Greg McDermott said. "We were outrebounded badly in the second half. For some reason, we didn't have it tonight. We knew what to expect from Missouri, but we were not sharp in our preparation. It wasn't there. The light never came on."

Matt Lawrence and Keon Lawrence kickstarted the Tigers early by drilling a trio of 3-pointers to give MU a 15-8 lead with 10:16 left in the opening period. ISU helped the Missouri cause by committing eight turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the contest. A pair of 3-pointers by Wesley Johnson and a trey by Mike Taylor kept the Cyclones within reach, trailing 31-26 at the half. Taylor increased his consecutive game 3-pointers made streak to 19, the second-best streak in school history.

MU's Kalen Grimes took over after intermission, making his first three shots of the second period. Johnson once again was able to keep ISU close by hitting two more treys, as ISU was down 39-32 with 15:59 left in the game. Johnson finished the game with a career-high five 3-pointers. He has now made 10 3-pointers in his last three games.

The Cyclones cut the lead to three points (39-36) on a pair of baskets from Cory Johnson and Taylor, but Missouri answered with a conventional 3-point play from Keon Lawrence and a fast-break hoop by Leo Lyons to go back up by eight points. Missouri increased its lead to 14 points (50-36) and cruised the rest of the way after Marcus Watkins scored on a fast-break lay-up with 10:46 remaining in the contest.

ISU was outmatched inside, as Missouri tallied 34 points in the paint compared to eight from ISU. The Cyclones did hit 10 3-pointers in the game, the sixth time this season where ISU made 10 or more treys in a game.

ISU travels to No. 25 Texas on Saturday (Feb. 10). Tipoff is set for 12:45 p.m.
