Manns Named To U.S. National A2 Program

AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State volleyball player Kaylee Manns has been selected to participate in the U.S. Women's National Volleyball A2 program late this spring. Manns, a sophomore-to-be from Topeka, Kan., is one of 20 players, all with remaining collegiate eligibility, to earn a spot in the prestigious program.

The 20 players will be split into two 10-member squads during training sessions prior to competing in the USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships May 26-June 2 in Austin, Texas.

"This is a great opportunity for Kaylee," said Iowa State head coach Christy Johnson. "She will be playing with some of the best college players in the country. It's an elite group of athletes identified by USA Volleyball as having future potential with the National Team. Kaylee will benefit tremendously from this experience."

Manns, one of just four setters and two freshmen selected to participate, broke the single-season school-record with 1,433 assists while helping Iowa State earn its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1995. With Manns directing the Cyclones' offensive attack, the team's hitting percentage improved to .230. The Cyclones hit .198 in 2005. Her 12.91 assists per game last season was fourth in the Big 12.

Defensively, Manns averaged 3.23 digs and posted 19 double-doubles on the season.
