WACO, Texas - The Iowa State tennis team fell to the Baylor Bears, 7-0, at the Baylor Tennis Center Saturday. The 14th ranked Bears, who came into the match against the Cyclones with a half-game lead over Texas in the Big 12 Conference race, improved to 19-6 overall and 10-1 in conference play, while the Cyclones dropped to 5-11 overall and 0-10 in conference action.
The victory over the Cyclones gave the Bears at least a share of the Big 12 title and makes it the third straight season that the Bears have won the regular-season crown.
The Bears proved to be too much for the Cyclones as they won all six singles matches after taking the doubles point. In singles action, ISU's Kara Hickey had her two-match singles streak snapped as she fell to Baylor's, Zuzana Cerna 6-0, 6-0. Cerna came into the match ranked as the No. 43 singles player in the country.
In doubles action, ISU's No. 3 tandem of Chrissy Derouin and Alyssa Palen saw their two-match Big 12 doubles winning streak broken as they were defeated by Baylor's duo of Klara Zrustova and Jana Bielikova, 8-3.
The Cyclones return to the courts Sunday as they head to Lubbock, Texas, to take on the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. The match against Texas Tech wraps up the Big 12 regular season for the Cyclones.
Sunday's match with Texas Tech will be the final regular-season tennis meet for three Iowa State seniors, Jill Palen, Eve Soriano, and Danielle Uscinski.
