COLUMBIA, Mo. ? Iowa State got a solid performance from starter Alyssa Ransom but dropped a 1-0 pitcher's duel to Missouri in the first game of Thursday afternoon's doubleheader at University Field.

Ransom (10-16) struck out six Missouri batters and allowed just four hits in the game but was out dueled by Tiger starter Jen Bruck. Bruck (17-6) allowed four hits and matched Ransom with six strikeouts en route to her fourth shutout of the season.

Missouri (34-19, 10-2 Big 12) scored the game's only run in the bottom of the first on a single from Amanda Renth that plated Leanne Bowers, who drew a walk from Ransom to lead off the inning.

Iowa State (22-36, 1-12 Big 12) had opportunities to put runs on the board in the fifth and sixth innings but failed to knot it up.

In the fifth, Courtney Wray singled for her second hit of the game to lead off the inning. The Overland Park, Kan., native reached second on Kelsey Kidwell's two-out single before Bruck got Katherine Cross to fly out to right field to end the threat.

In the very next inning, Katie Reichling and Ashley Killeen both reached after being hit by Bruck's pitches with two outs. Missouri left fielder Micaela Minner then made a sliding catch to rob Wray of her third hit and keep the Cyclones off the scoreboard and preserve the win.

Wray's two hits in the game makes her 5-for-7 in the last two games. Fellow freshman Alex Johnson roped her 12^th double of the season in the fourth inning, tying the Iowa State freshman record which was previously held by Kris McMaster. Kelsey Kidwell, also a freshman, had Iowa State's other hit.

Renth finished the game 1-for-3 with her 55^th run batted in. Bruck also collected a hit in the game for the Tigers, who equaled ISU's four hits.
