Hurdlers Strong at Drake Relays

DES MOINES -- Iowa State's Jenny Mockler ran to a seventh-place finish in the University 800 meters, finishing in a season-best 2:08.27 Friday at the Drake Relays. Cyclone Leigh Wagner tied for seventh in the high jump, clearing 5-7. The ISU hurdlers ran well.

Cyclones Rebecca Williams and Jenna Caffrey both earned spots in Saturday's 100-meter hurdle final. Williams, the Big 12 indoor 60-meter hurdle champion, won her heat in 13.62 seconds. Caffrey, a freshman who had starred in Drake Stadium as a high schooler at Burlington, is in the final after finishing third in her preliminary heat with a 13.83 effort.

“Rebecca had a bad start but ran the flight really well,” Iowa State women's hurdle coach Scott Roberts said. “Jenna was a little nervous, I think because she had won so many races on this track and she wanted to do well here, even as a freshman. We've got both through to the final and I'm looking forward to Saturday.”
