SAN MARCOS, Texas – The women's hammer school record came down as Cyclones competed through the Bobcat Invite & Multi, UCSD Triton Invite and Stanford Invite Friday.
Sophomore Candra King broke the hammer throw school record on her second attempt with 210-6 (64.17m) after matching her PR on her first throw (207-3). King then improved on that mark again in round three with 211-6 (64.48m). King took one more throw (209-5) and then passed on the fifth and sixth round. King won the event by 23 feet.
King takes down Kaitlyn Burson's 2023 program record of 209-8.
In the javelin, Justice Miller made his Cyclone debut memorable hitting an all-time PR of 222-1 (67.69m), putting him at No. 4 in Iowa State history. Miller moved into first with the mark in the fifth round, but was then topped by Oregon's Pat Vialva in the sixth round to finish second.
Zola N'Douma-Mona kept things rolling in day two of the heptathlon at the Bobcat Invite & Multi, opening the day winning the long jump on her final of three jumps with 19-11w (6.07m). Maia Denge-Hagen took fourth in the heptathlon long jump, leaping to 18-10 3/4w (5.76m).
N'Douma-Mona won four of the seven events and went on to total 5,467 points, now the second-best score in Iowa State history. The France native came just off her personal best of 5,481 and finished second overall at the Bobcat Invite. Denge-Hagen scored 4,766, just off the ISU top 10, to place fifth in her first-career heptathlon.
At the Stanford Invite, Quinton Orr opened the night with an all-time steeplechase best of 8:39.11 to take ninth in the invitational section, finishing as the sixth-fastest collegian. Orr improves his time at No. 7 in Iowa State history.
Sanele Masondo and Meshack Kimutai then raced late into the night in the invite 10,000m. Masondo had a 17-second time drop and went sub-28 minutes with 27:54.77 to jump from No. 7 to No. 4 on ISU's elite top 10. Kimutai in his first 10K went 28:02.19, now the No. 7-ranked program performance.
