TUCSON, Arizona – Rachel Joseph made more history defending her outdoor 400m title, while both the women and men secured top five team finishes. ISU was one of three to have both its men and women finish top five.
The women scored 72 points for fourth place, the highest point total and finish outdoors since 2023 (third, 107.5 points). The men finish fifth with 82.5 points, their fourth-straight finish in the top five outdoors.
Just as the star did in prelims, Joseph stormed past all competitors from start to finish while resetting her own facility and school record. Joseph nearly went sub-50 with an elite 50.08, downing her already blistering PR of 50.49 set yesterday.
The living legend is the third in Big 12 history to take four-straight 400m titles through indoor and outdoor season and first since 2013. Joseph now owns the top 29 400m times in school history, has broken or reset the outdoor 400m ISU record nine times and has broken an individual ISU record 21 times.
Big points came in the men's 800m, where all three finalists cemented their spots on the podium. Freshman Jailan Sohna was the top Cyclone finisher in fourth, while Emanuel Galdino who returned after the 1,500m took seventh and Sam Austin eighth. The three finished locked up eight points.
Galdino took hold of his eighth Big 12 medal finishing runner up in the 1,500m. Galdino set the pace and led through the final stretch, but got outkicked by BYU's Carter Cutting. Galdino ends his Big 12 career as a nine-time medalist following today's 1,500m and 800m.
Another silver medal was secured by Makayla Clark in the 800m final. It was the third silver medal in the 800m of the senior's career.
Robin Kwemoi Bera was the next Big 12 runner up for Iowa State as Bera had his best Big 12 finish in the 5,000m. Sanele Masondo took seventh to also medal. Both doubled back from the 10,000m, where they also medaled. The duo now each total four Big 12 medals.
The women raced next, where ISU also finished runner up. Betty Kipkore who took third in the 10,000m two nights ago grabbed silver and Mercy Kibet racing her first 5,000m also grabbed a podium spot in fourth. Kipkore totaled 14 points through the championship.
Alec Carr, who joined Galdino as a Cyclone to made two finals, first took on 110m hurdles and earned fifth in 13.60w running in the gusty wind at a reading of 3.8 m/s. It was Carr's best conference finish in 110m hurdles. Just over an hour later, Carr also scored in 400m hurdles crossing the line eighth. The 110m and 400m hurdle school-record holder closes his conference career as a five-time medalist.
Tyson Seeser began the day with a big clearance in the high jump to take bronze. The freshman tied his all-time PR of 7-1 (2.16m) to tie the seventh-best outdoor mark in Iowa State history. Seeser opened at 6-7 1/2 and cleared his first two bars on the first try. Seeser then made 6-11 1/2 on his second, and 7-1 on the first go.
Two men then reached the podium in the discus, with Daniel Norris throwing an ISU-best 188-0 (57.31m) to debut at No. 9 in ISU history. Norris took fifth, while Brandon Fischer placed sixth with 187-3 (57.08m) as the duo combined for seven points.
Betty Rosvold took sixth in the discus throwing a season-best 170-5 (51.94m). It was her second Big 12 podium finish in the event.
The 4x100m began running events, with the men's squad of Justin Gleason, Gus Langford, Ty Koehnk and Jon Rice scoring a point finishing in eighth in a season best of 40.72. The women's team of Sydney Willits, Karynne David, Brooklyn Sandvig and Amari Laing also took eighth in 45.46.
The 4x400m closed conference, with both the women and men scoring. David, Joseph, Emma Vorpagel and Clark took bronze in a season best and No. 3 ISU mark of 3:31.30. The men added a team point in eighth.
