NEW ORLEANS ? Three Iowa State track and field competitors have earned academic All-American status. Big 12 Conference champion Lisa Koll of Fort Dodge, NCAA hurdles qualifier Jenna Caffrey of Burlington and Big 12 triple jump champion Agata Kosuda were named academic All-Americans Thursday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for their academic and athletics achievements during the indoor and outdoor track season. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, one must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and obtain an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark for the most recent indoor championships or an outdoor regional qualifying mark in their respective event.
Koll had a sensational 2006-07 season, earning All-America honors in cross country in November and winning the Big 12 10,000-meter run as a freshman in May. She is a biology major. Caffrey, a freshman, placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Midwest Regional in May to qualify for the NCAA Championship. She is majoring in adult and family services. Kosuda, who owns the school record in the triple jump indoors and outdoors, is a graduate student in political science.
