ISU Soccer Falls In 107th Minute To Dayton

ST. PAUL, Minn. ? Dayton's Mandi Back scored twice, the second in the 107^th minute, as the Iowa State soccer team (3-1-1) was defeated, 2-1, Sunday in the final round of the University of Minnesota's Gopher Invitational. Ann Gleason made seven of her eight saves in the second half and overtime.

“It was a physical match,” said ISU head coach Rebecca Hornbacher. “We battled down the stretch to bring it to overtime. We have to be able to put it away when we have opportunities. We'll refocus as a team and prepare for next weekend. Both teams battled but unfortunately, we just fell short late in the game.”

Brittanie Waddell scored her first goal of the season less than two minutes into the contest to give the Cyclones the early lead. Waddell put pressure on the Flyer defense and was able to win a ball in the 18-yard box and squib it past Dayton (5-2-0) goalkeeper Deana Waintraub.

Back's first goal gave Dayton the equalizer in the 32^nd minute. Back took a missed clearance and drilled a shot that Gleason had little chance at.

In the second half and overtime, Gleason (3-1-1) stopped most everything the Flyers could send her way. She made five saves in the second period and two more in the first overtime.

Elise Reid had a pair of one-one-one opportunities in the first overtime, but Dayton goalkeeper Niki Reed was equal to the task on both. With both teams scrambling in the 107^th minute, Back again showed a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard box to put the game away.

Reed (5-2-0) replaced Waintraub to begin the second half and was credited with the win. Reed made two saves. Waintraub added one stop.

The win marked Dayton's third double-overtime win of the season, including two consecutive in the Gopher Invitational.

The Cyclones will next travel to Las Vegas to participate in the UNLV Rebel Classic. ISU will challenge Nevada Friday at 1 p.m. before taking on host UNLV Sunday at 1 p.m.
