- The Cyclones went 1-1-0 in the exhibition season, defeating Creighton, 2-0, before falling to Drake, 2-1. Erin Witte scored two goals in the preseason while Elise Reid added another.
- The Cyclones own a 3-0 all-time series lead over Northern Iowa with wins in 2001, 2002, and 2006. Most recently, the Cyclones defeated UNI, 2-0, in the Spring. Friday's match is the third against Missouri Valley Conference opponents in ISU's last four.

- Hornbacher led the Cyclones to their best finish in the Big 12 in 2005 when ISU went 11-7-3 (tied for second). The team's reward was the Cyclones' first trip to the NCAA Tournament, while Hornbacher was recognized as the Big 12 Coach of the Year.

- The Hawkeyes featured a balanced attack in 2006 as no player scored more than two of their 11 goals on the season. Shaw, Hyink, and senior forward Kelsie Full each scored twice. Hyink also added four assists while Full had three.

Net Returns
-The Cyclones return 95 percent of their scoring from last season. Senior forward Brittanie Waddell was ISU's leading scorer last season with five goals while sophomore Lauren Odino netted four goals. Senior midfielder Stephanie Kaphingst had three goals while fellow senior Erin Witte found the back of the net twice. Junior Leslie Hill and sophomores Amanda Nimtz, Casey Bothwell, and Lauren Fader each scored one goal. The only goal scorer from last season that does not return is Jess Villhauer, who scored once.
Opponents Left Feeling Rejected
- ISU goalkeeper Ann Gleason stopped more opponent shots than any other netminder in the Big 12 last season. Gleason had a school-record 119 saves to lead the conference, while her 5.95 saves per game were also a Big 12-best. Gleason played every minute of every match in net as the only goalkeeper on the ISU roster in 2006. She has a back-up in 2007 as freshman Ashley Costanzo joined the Cyclones.
