COLUMBIA, Mo. ? Iowa State struggled out of the gates, falling behind 2-0, but rallied back to force a fifth set before falling 3-2 (15-25, 15-25, 25-16, 25-22, 7-15) Wednesday night at Missouri. With the loss, ISU is now 0-3 in five-set matches this season.
The Cyclones (9-7, 1-4 Big 12) got a career-high 32 digs from Ashley Mass, and Rachel Hockaday tied a career-high with 15 kills. Hockaday also had 12 digs, posting her fourth double-double of the season. Victoria Henson and Jen Malcom had 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Diane Kieger had a solo block and seven block assists for the Cyclones, who out blocked Missouri, 12 to five.

The Tigers (8-6, 2-2) were led by Julianna Klein, who finished with 17 kills. Weiwen Wang had 16 kills for the Tigers while Caitlyn Vann recorded 24 digs.
The Tigers out hit Iowa State, .259 to .165, and out dug ISU 82-74. The Cyclone cause was hurt by nine service errors and seven receiving and blocking errors.
The Cyclones started slow in the first set, falling behind 10-2 following an 8-0 Missouri run, before eventually dropping the set 25-15. ISU struggled passing and never got into a rhythm offensively, hitting just .047. The Tigers were able to hit .293 in the set, led by a five kills from Weiwen Wang and four from Klein.
Another slow start in the second set cost the Cyclones as ISU fell behind 6-1 and never led for the second straight set. The Cyclones closed the gap to 11-7 on a kill from Hockaday but that was all the closer they would get as Missouri scored the next four and cruised to another 25-15 win. The Tigers hit a blistering .394 behind six kills from Klein.
Iowa State turned up the offense in the third set to take a 25-16 win. The Cyclones hit .295 in the set and had four blocks en route to the win. Henson had five kills in the set, including one to close the Missouri lead to 10-9. ISU scored the next five points, three on blocks and two on kills from Diane Kieger to distance itself from the Tigers and roll to the win.
The Cyclones trailed 11-9 but scored seven straight, three of which came on service aces from freshman Caitlin Mahoney to push the lead to 16-11. Missouri tied it at 20-20 before Hockaday and Malcom put away back-to-back kills to force a Tiger timeout. Following the timeout, Hockaday slammed another kill and ISU held off Missouri for the 25-22 win to force a fifth set.
In the fifth set, Missouri used a 5-0 run after the Cyclones had closed to one at 5-4. The Cyclones were unable to string together enough points to get back into it, falling 15-7.
Iowa State returns to action Saturday with a match against Oklahoma. First serve is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum.
