AMES, Iowa ? On a night when Iowa State was without senior leader Jen Malcom, it was sophomore Victoria Henson whose powerful kills led the Cyclones past Texas Tech, 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-14), at Hilton Coliseum. It was Iowa State's third straight win and improved its home record to 6-2, including 3-1 in Big 12 play.
The Cyclones (12-7, 4-4 Big 12) had Malcom, who suffered an ankle sprain in practice on Tuesday, available on an emergency basis but in this match she wasn't needed as Henson blasted 16 kills at a career-best .652 clip.

“You can just tell when Victoria is in that groove,” Iowa State head coach Christy Johnson said of Henson. “It doesn't happen every night, but she is so athletic that there are some nights she is just on. Nights where it doesn't matter if the set is good or bad, or where it comes from, low or high. She can just get on it and get kills.”
Freshman Debbie Stadick filled in admirably in the middle for Malcom, posting five kills and hitting .625 while adding a solo block and four block assists.
“It's good to know we can play this well without her in the lineup,” Johnson said. “Stadick was awesome tonight. It's good to know we have that depth and that option.”
Stadick's fellow freshman, Rachel Hockaday bounced back from a tough match at Baylor to have 11 kills and hit .441. Kaylee Manns set the Cyclones to a .441 hitting percentage, dishing out 40 assists.
“Kaylee was sick earlier this week and she sat out of practice Monday,” Johnson said. “I thought she had a really solid match.”
Ashley Mass' digs streak came to an end as she posted a season-low eight digs in the match. Mass had the nation's third longest active streak with 44 consecutive matches with 10 or more digs but quick rallies gave the sophomore libero limited opportunities.
The Cyclones took a 25-17 win in the first set, paced by a .367 team hitting percentage that featured a balanced offense. Four Cyclones had three kills each in the first set and ISU outblocked the Red Raiders (5-15, 0-9), 5-0, in the frame.
In the second, Texas Tech took a brief lead at 6-5 but the Cyclones stormed back, going on a 7-2 run to gain control of the set and cruise to the 25-14 win.
The third frame was again all Cyclones as ISU hit .517 to take the 25-14 win and sweep the match.
Texas Tech was led by seven kills each from Brandi Hood and Amanda Dowdy.
The Cyclones had four service aces to just two for the Red Raiders. Caitlin Mahoney had two more aces, giving her 10 in the last six matches.
Iowa State returns to action Saturday at Colorado (9-8, 3-5). First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. (CT). Live video and live stats will be available at cyclones.com.
