AMES, Iowa?The Iowa State soccer team had juniors Ann Gleason and Lauren Fader named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII first team Thursday. Fader and Gleason are now eligible for academic All-America status.
To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must be in at least their second year at their current institution and reached sophomore athletic eligibility. Also, they must be a starter or key reserve, played in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average.
Gleason, a goalkeeper and Stillwater, Minn. native, carries a 3.97 cumulative GPA while majoring in chemical engineering. Receiving the honor for the second consecutive year, Gleason has started all but one match for ISU this season. She holds the Cyclones' all-time career records for minutes played in goal (4,957 minutes), shutouts (11) and saves (311).
Fader, a defender and Cincinnati, Ohio, native, has a 3.95 cumulative GPA and is majoring in health fitness management. Fader has started all 18 matches for ISU this season and leads the team in minutes played (1,623). A second-team selection in 2007, Fader has scored one goal this season which was a game-winner while dishing out one assist.
