AMES, Iowa ? Iowa State digs the long ball. Connecting on a school-record 15 3-pointers, the Cyclones outgunned UW-Milwaukee, 79-61, in the third round of the World Vision Classic Sunday night in Hilton Coliseum. ISU, which improves its record to 3-0 with a three-game sweep in the tournament, had four players (Sean Haluska, Lucca Staiger, Diante Garrett, Jamie Vanderbeken) with three or more treys in its record-setting night.
"I've been telling everyone we have the potential to be a good shooting team, so I am glad they initially proved my words accurate and they proved this is how we are made," ISU head coach Greg McDermott said. "It puts opposing teams in a difficult situation. We moved the ball well and the guys were unselfish in the absence of one of our best shooters (Wes Eikmeier-who sat out with the flu)."

Garrett got the Cyclones started on the right track by scoring 11 of their first 14 points to help ISU take an early 14-7 advantage with 14:15 left in the first half. Garrett, who had nine 3-pointers all of last season, buried three treys in the first five minutes of the game.
ISU increased its lead to 28-14 with more long-range bombs. The Cyclones drilled treys on four-straight possessions from the hands of Bryan Petersen, Vanderbeken and Staiger, who canned a pair in a 14-4 Cyclone run.
The Cyclones went into the break with a 41-31 lead thanks to nine first-half treys from five different players.

Back-to-back baskets from Brackins pushed the Cyclone lead to nine points, but Tone Boyle answered for the Panthers with a lay-up and a trey to cut the lead to 53-49 with 12:35 left in the game.
ISU firmly took control of the game with a key 17-3 run late in the second half. The Cyclones knocked down four treys in the run- two by Vanderbeken and one each by Petersen and Staiger- to break open the game.
Brackins led ISU with 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the floor en route to MVP honors. Garrett finished with 17 points with a career-high nine rebounds and three 3-pointers. Staiger ended the game with 12 points behind a career-high four 3-pointers.
