AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State tennis team was defeated, 7-0, by the 17th-ranked Texas Longhorns on Friday afternoon. The loss moves Iowa State's record to 4-7 (0-4, Big 12). The Longhorns mark stands at 9-4 (3-0, Big 12).
In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of Erin Karonis and Chrissy Derouin lost at the hands of 29th-rated Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic. Corovic and Milic are 9-3 at No. 1 doubles on the season. At No. 2 doubles, Texas' Stephanie Davison and Caroline Larsson tallied the win over Caitlin Loprinzi and Kara Hickey, 8-3. Alyssa Palen and Liza Wischer also lost their doubles match.
In singles, Courtney Zauft defeated Karonis, 6-2, 6-0. At the No. 2 spot, the Longhorns' Corovic, ranked as?the 125th best singles player, defeated junior Hickey, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, reigning Big 12 women's tennis player of the week Davison came away with the win over Iowa State senior Loprinzi, 6-0, 6-1. With the loss, Loprinzi's record moved to 8-3 on the season. Derouin, Palen and Wischer also lost their singles matches.
"Texas is really a tough team," said ISU head coach Michele Conlon. "They are solid all the way through their line-up. I don't think we had our best outing of the season. However, I have a lot of faith that our team will respond well from the loss and be ready to face Texas A&M on Sunday."
Iowa State will head to College Station on Sunday to take on the 32nd-ranked Texas A&M Aggies at 12 p.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
