AMES, Iowa ? First-year head coach Wendy Dillinger announced the 2008 Iowa State soccer schedule Wednesday. The Cyclones will host eight home games and will face four teams that were ranked at the end of last season.
The Cyclones will open the season with an exhibition game at Creighton on Aug. 16, and then will host the Alumni Game on Aug. 22, before beginning the regular season a week later.
ISU will play in two tournaments at the beginning of the season, the Illinois Tournament on Aug. 29-31 and the Jackrabbit Invitational Sept. 12-14. Between the Cyclones will play at DePaul on Sept. 5, and at Northern Iowa on Sept. 7.
The first home game for the Cyclones will be Sept. 19, against Drake and will be followed on Sept. 21, against Iowa. The next weekend ISU will kick off the Big 12 season by hosting Missouri and Kansas.
Iowa State will play two teams ranked in the final 2007 poll in three games when it faces Texas on Oct. 5, and Texas A&M on Oct. 12. A home game against Illinois State is sandwiched in between.
Three of the last five games will be at home for ISU, as they face Texas Tech and Colorado before a final road trip against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The Cyclones close the regular season on Oct. 31, with a home match against Nebraska.
San Antonio will host the Big 12 Tournament Nov. 5-9. The NCAA Tournament First Round will begin Nov. 14.
All Iowa State home games are played at the ISU Soccer Complex and begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. The only exception is the Oct. 10, game against Illinois State which will begin at 4 p.m.
