AUSTIN, Texas ? Iowa State had set points in the second and third sets but was unable to fend off a potent Texas offense, falling 3-0 (19-25, 25-27, 25-27) to the third-ranked Longhorns Wednesday at Gregory Gym.
The Cyclones (9-5, 1-2 Big 12) played well after a shaky first set that saw them commit two service errors and three receiving errors but in the end ISU had a hard time stopping Texas' two go-to players, Destinee Hooker and Juliann Faucette. Hooker had 19 kills and hit .531 while Faucette finished with 11 kills for Texas (7-2, 1-1 Big 12), which hit .358 as a team.

ISU had no players in double-digits, instead utilizing a balanced attack that saw five players with seven or more kills. Rachel Hockaday, Victoria Henson and Jen Malcom each finished with nine kills while Diane Kieger had eight and Kelsey Petersen recorded seven. Malcom was the high hitter with a .533 hitting percentage to improve her season average to .436.
The Cyclones hit .272 as a team and out dug the Longhorns 42 to 41. Ashley Mass had 14 digs in the contest and Hockaday and Kaylee Manns added eight. Manns also had 41 assists in the contest while Mass reached double-figures for the 40th consecutive match.

Texas took the first set 25-19 behind a .324 hitting percentage and five kills from Faucette. The Longhorns used a 5-0 run to go up 10-5 after ISU had tied it up on a kill from Hockaday. The run proved to be the difference in the set as ISU struggled to get back into the set despite four kills from Petersen in her first career start.
In the second set, ISU raced out to a 6-1 lead on a pair of kills from Kieger and two aces by Henson. The Longhorns would battle back to tie it at 9-9 but ISU stayed in the set as the teams went back-and-forth. The Cyclones held set points at 24-23 and 25-24 but were unable to contain the Longhorn attack as Texas fought off each opportunity and eventually took the 27-25 win. ISU couldn't find an answer for Hooker as she finished with nine second set kills.
In the third set, ISU fell behind 6-2 out of the gate but regained composure and took its first lead at 12-11 on a solo block from Malcom on Hooker. ISU eventually pushed its lead to four at 18-14 on a block by Henson and Kieger but Texas chipped away with two straight. The Cyclones then rebuilt their lead to 20-17 but Texas again fought back, tying it at 21 all. The Cyclones had set point again at 24-23 and 25-24 but it wasn't meant to be on this night as Texas the next three points for the win.
