AMES, Iowa--Iowa State head men's basketball coach Greg McDermott announced today that Melvin Ejim, a 6-6 wing from Brampton, Ontario, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Iowa State beginning in the 2010-11 season.
Ejim, who will be a freshman next season, averaged 12.3 points and 4.6 rebounds last season at Brewster Academy, one of the nation's best prep school teams. Brewster made the semifinals of the national prep school championship a year ago. Ejim, who is listed as one of the best prospects out of Canada, played at St. Mary's Ryken in Brampton, Ontario before transferring to Brewster.
“Melvin is an athletic wing with the versatility to play multiple positions,” McDermott said. “He brings a physical mentality and takes great pride in being a defensive stopper. On the offensive end of the floor, he has made tremendous progress in the last year in the development of his perimeter skills. That is a credit to Melvin's work ethic, and that workman-like mentality will allow him to make an immediate impact in our program.”
