TOWSON, Md.?Iowa State senior goalkeeper Ann Gleason received her most prestigious academic honor of her career Wednesday, as she was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America second team.
Gleason is the first ISU soccer player to receive Academic All-America honors in program history. The Stillwater, Minn., native is a three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 honoree and has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII first-team three times.
Gleason played every minute (1,897) possible as goalkeeper for the Cyclones in 2009. The Stillwater, Minn., native gave up 1.04 goals-per-game and recorded 85 saves this season. Gleason ranks first all-time in program history in career wins (26), shutouts (16) and saves (403). Furthermore, Gleason boasts the top ISU season marks in save percentage (.864) and goals-against average (.890), both from her 2007 campaign. Gleason was a Preseason All-Big 12 selection. She boasts a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average and is majoring in chemical engineering.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
