? Iowa State senior goalkeeper Ann Gleason received her most prestigious academic honor of her career, as she was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America second team. Gleason is the first Cyclone soccer player to be named to the Academic All-America squad.
Record-Tying Nine Cyclones Earn Big 12 Honors
? The Iowa State soccer team tied a program mark with nine players named to the Academic All-Big 12 squad announced by the league office. ISU also boasted nine players on the Academic All-Big 12 teams in 2004 and 2005.
Fader and Gleason Earn Academic All-District Honors
? For the third consecutive year seniors Lauren Fader and Ann Gleason were named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII squad. Both Fader and Gleason received first-team honors.
Historic Win Over Texas
? The Cyclones'1-0 win over Texas Oct. 18 marked the second time Iowa State defeated the Longhorns in 17 matches. The victory was the Cyclones' first over UT since 1999.
Woelfel: Two-Time Big 12 Honoree
? Freshman Amanda Woelfel was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the week on two separate occasions. The Omaha, Neb., native first received the honor after matches on Sept. 4 and 6. Woelfel scored the game-winning goal against No. 20 DePaul Sept. 4, and added an insurance goal for the Cyclones in the victory.
? Woelfel also received the honor for matches played on Oct. 2 and 4. Woelfel scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Oklahoma State Oct. 2, and also added an assist in the win. Woelfel then assisted on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 sudden-victory win over Northern Iowa Oct. 4. The goal was scored with 17 seconds remaining in the first overtime period.
Defenese Makes Vast Improvement
? The Cyclone defense made impressive progress from 2008 to 2009. In 2008, Iowa State conceded an average of 2.05 goals and in 2009 the Cyclones improved to 1.10, nearly a one-goal-per-game improvement.
? Adding to the noteworthy improvement is the fact that ISU gave up 22 goals in 2009, compared to 39 in 2008. Iowa State also played in one more game this season than in 2008.
Gleason's Record Career
? ISU goalkeeper Ann Gleason exhausted her eligibility with the conclusion of the 2009 campaign, but her name will continue to be found in the ISU record book. Gleason holds Iowa State records in career wins (26), shutouts (16) and saves (403). Furthermore, Gleason boasts the top single-season marks in save percentage (.864) and goals-against average (.890), both from her 2007 campaign.
