AMES, Iowa?The Iowa State soccer team named senior Leslie Hill and junior Lauren Fader Offensive and Defense Most Valuable Players at its team banquet this past weekend.
Hill led the Cyclones in points (11) and tied for the team lead in assists (five). The Plano, Texas, native was one of four Cyclones to start all 19 matches and fired the second-most shots (42) for Iowa State in 2008.
Fader proved to be a defensive cog for the Cyclones in 2008, leading Iowa State in minutes played (1,713) in 19 starts. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native's contributions were not only defensive, as she accounted for one goal and an assist. Her long goal proved to be the game winner against DePaul on Sept. 5.
The Cyclone Excellence Award, which is presented to the player with outstanding commitment to serving the community and Cyclone athletics through community service, went to junior Casey Bothwell.
Senior Amanda Purple took home the Iron Woman Award. The honor is chosen by ISU Director of Strength & Conditioning for Olympic Sports Andrew Moser, who selects the player that made the biggest strides/improvements in strength and conditioning in the year preceding the season.
The Most Improved Player Award went to freshman and Ames native, Amanda Mayberry.
The Newcomer of the Year Award was shared between Mary Kate McLaughlin and Emily Hejlik.
Freshman Laura Wooster received the Coaches' Award, which is presented to the player chosen by the coaches who exhibited a selfless attitude, incredible work rate, consistency and willingness to go above and beyond for the best interest of the team.
The final honor was the Cyclone Dedication Award which is given to members of the program who give unsparingly of their time, commitment and energy to help advance the program. ISU head coach Wendy Dillinger presented this honor to the four Iowa State male practice players (Brad Reid, Alex Koth, Alex Rich and Brian Smith).
