WACO, Texas ? The Iowa State tennis team fell to Baylor, 7-0, Saturday morning. With the loss, the Cyclones are now 8-5 this season and 1-3 in the Big 12.
In singles play, Iowa State's Erin Karonis put up a good fight against Baylor's 37th-ranked Taylor Ormond. Karonis lost in a super tiebreaker 3-6, 6-1, 10-3. In No. 4 singles ISU freshman Marie-Christine Chartier played two close sets, including one that led to a tiebreaker, against BU's Kasia Siwosz, but fell 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Kara Hickey defeated Baylor's Zuzana Chmelarova in the first set 7-5, but Chmelarova came back in the last two sets to win in a tiebreaker 5-7, 6-3, 10-2.
"I am pleased with the way we competed,” Iowa State head coach Armando Espinosa said. “We need to take advantage of our opportunities when they present themselves and run with them.”
The Cyclones will play again Sunday at 10 a.m. against Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
