WACO, Texas ? Taylor Barnes posted a triple-double, finishing with 10 kills, 11 digs and 38 assists as No. 24 Baylor swept Iowa State, 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 33-31), Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center.
Barnes also set the Bears (13-1, 2-1 Big 12) to a .222 average, compared to just a .172 average for the Cyclones (9-2, 1-2). Baylor also got 11 kills from Ashlie Christenson and 10 from Tori Campbell.
Iowa State was led by a match-high 17 kills and 12 digs from Victoria Henson. Henson was joined in double-figures by Rachel Hockaday, who finished with 11 kills. Ashley Mass had a career-high and ISU rally scoring era record 33 digs in the losing effort as ISU was out dug, 79-72, for the second time in as many matches.
Kaylee Manns finished with 41 assists and nine digs. Diane Kieger led the way at the net with five block assists for ISU, which was out blocked 13.5-9.
The opening set featured 16 lead changes as Baylor used a three-point run to break open a tie set and take a 22-19 lead. The Cyclones closed to within one at 22-21 following a block by Kieger and Henson and then again at 24-23 on a kill from Petersen, but the Bears used a Breyfogle kill to take the set 25-23.
Mass had 12 digs in the frame and ISU held a 4-1 edge blocking despite dropping the set.
In the second stanza, Baylor grabbed the lead for good at 9-8 en route to a 25-19 win. The Cyclones closed the gap to one point seven times but were unable to put together any runs as they went to the break trailing 2-0.
The third set featured 17 ties with Iowa State holding six set points and Baylor having three match points before taking the 33-31 win. ISU got seven kills from Hockaday in the set but it wasn't enough as the Cyclones hit just .185 in the frame.
Iowa State returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Kansas State at 2 p.m.
