DES MOINES, Iowa—Jamie Vanderbeken's 25-foot 3-point buzzer-beating shot propelled the Iowa State men's basketball team to a thrilling 91-88 victory over Creighton Sunday inside Wells Fargo Arena in front of a crowd of 10,252.

Following a made Creighton free throw that tied the game at 88, the 6-11 Vanderbeken received a three-quarter-court inbounds pass from Scott Christopherson. With a Bluejay defender draped on his back, Vanderbeken faked right, spun left and unleashed the gamewinner.

Vanderbeken's buzzer beater occurred right after the Cyclones saw a five-point lead evaporate in the game's final 20 seconds.

The high-scoring affair saw career highs in points by Diante Garrett (28) and Melvin Ejim (22). Jake Anderson also tallied a career best in rebounds with 15 while also tallying 19 points for his second double-double as a Cyclone.

Iowa State took the lead with 5:30 remaining in the game when Ejim connected on a 3-pointer. The Cyclones would not relinquish its lead for the remainder of the game after only previously holding the lead for a total of 1:23.

The Cyclones were playing against their former head coach Greg McDermott, who led the Cyclones from the 2006-07 season through the 2009-10 campaign.

After leading 43-37 at intermission, the Bluejays started the second half with an 8-2 run, forcing ISU head coach Fred Hoiberg to use a timeout. The Cyclones responded with a pair of 3-pointers by Ejim and Garrett to cut the Creighton lead to six.

The Cyclones return to action Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game against Kennesaw State in Hilton Coliseum.
