AMES, Iowa? The Iowa State soccer team will receive the services of St. Louis, Mo., native Meredith Skitt for the 2010 campaign head coach Wendy Dillinger announced Friday.
Skitt, a midfielder/defender, comes to ISU after playing for the high-powered club team, Scott Gallagher. While playing for Scott Gallagher, Skitt won four Missouri State Cup titles. Skitt has also played for the Missouri Olympic Development (ODP) team. In her three years on the St. Joseph's Academy squad, Skitt's teams' best seasons included a second-place and third-place finish at the Missouri state high school state championships.
“The characteristics that caught my eye immediately are Meredith's sound first touch and her quick decision making,” Dillinger said. “Meredith plays a simple style that keeps the flow of the game moving quickly and her ability to read the play a step ahead enables her to connect a high percentage of her passes. She is versatile and can play anywhere on the field. Her understanding of the game on the big scale gives her the ability to be in the right place at the right time. Meredith is a solid, steady and consistent performer. She will provide the Cyclones with the consistency we need day in and day out.
“Meredith has played high-level soccer in St. Louis for many years. Her high school team, St. Joseph's Academy has been a perennial power in the Missouri high school state championships and has produced a number of talented players under the direction of Maureen McVey. As a member of the St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club she has been trained by some of the best soccer minds in the Midwest including SLSC coach Scott McDoniel.”
