Cyclones Set Two Records at Kip Janvrin Open

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Select members of the Iowa State track and field team represented the Cyclones yesterday at Simpson College, in the Kip Janvrin Open. They successfully walked away from the day with four individual champions, a new school record, and a new meet record.

Sophomore Caitlin Weber highlighted performance for ISU, earning first place in the pole vault with a final height of 11-07.75. The Lakeville, Minn. native shattered the previous Iowa State record of 11-00.25, set in 2003 by Tamela Jadin. Freshman Ashley Leitner followed Weber, placing second, vaulting 11-03.75.

Redshirt freshman Dani Stack set a new Kip Janvrin Open record in her first-place performance in the 1,500-meter run. Her winning time of 4:39.05 replaces the previous record of 4:40.99, set by Northern Iowa's Shayla Houlihan in 2007.

Junior Myranda Casterline also earned a victory for the Cyclones in the 100-meter hurdles, winning with a time of 14.82.

Running unattached, freshman Taylor Peterson claimed a first place finish in the 5,000-meter run. Her winning time was 17:41.19.

Sophomore Eric Forbes finished second in the pole vault with a final height of 14-07.25.

Iowa State track and field continues competition today at the final day of the 2010 Drake Relays. Results will be posted on cyclones.com at the conclusion of the meet.
