IOWA CITY, Iowa - Victoria Henson had 12 kills and hit .545 as No. 11 Iowa State swept Iowa, 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-14), Friday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Cyclones, who won their sixth straight over Iowa, improve to 7-1 this season.
Henson, who had 17 kills and hit .405 in Wednesday's win over UNI, was again the Cyclones go-to player. The senior connected on 12 kills and made no errors for the Cyclones, who hit .326 as a team.
"I didn't feel like we were maybe as sharp as we could have been, but I'm pleased to come out with the win," Iowa State head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. "Victoria is in a zone for us right now, where it seems like no matter how good the set, everything she touches gets down for a kill."
Jamie Straube followed Henson's lead, finishing with nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Kelsey Petersen also had a mistake free night, connecting on six kills.
The Cyclones were dominant at the net, tallying 11 blocks to just one for the Hawkeyes (5-2). Straube had six block assists and Petersen added a solo stuff and four block assists.
The Cyclones rolled in the first set, winning 25-15 behind seven kills from Henson. Iowa State trailed briefly at 9-8 before scoring seven of the next nine points to break open the set. The Cyclones hit .314 in the set.
Iowa State controlled the second set from the beginning and cruised to a 25-12 win to head into the break up 2-0. The Cyclones had just one error in the set en route to a .458 hitting percentage.
The Cyclones left no doubt in the third set, holding the Hawkeyes to a -.182 hitting percentage in the frame to win 25-14 and earn their fourth-straight sweep.
Carly Jenson was the only player in double-digits for the Cyclones with 10 digs.
Iowa was led by Mallory Husz's eight kills.
The Cyclones return to Wednesday evening against Nebraska at Ames High School. The match, which will start at 7 p.m., will be shown live on ESPNU.
