COLUMBIA, Mo. - Ashley Mass had 20 digs and became Iowa State's career digs leader as the 11th-ranked Cyclones rallied after losing the first set to defeat Missouri, 3-1 (16-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-19), Saturday at the Hearnes Center. With the win, Iowa State improved to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 play.
Mass, a senior from Muskego, Wis., improved her career total to 1,908 digs, surpassing Steph McCannon (1992-95), who finished with 1,904 in her career. Mass recorded her 33rd career 20-dig match in the win.
Iowa State was led offensively by Carly Jenson's 12 kills and .286 hitting percentage. Jenson posted her fifth-straight double-digit effort with 12 digs as well.
Victoria Henson had 10 kills to run her consecutive matches streak to 18 in a row. Kelsey Petersen also had a good night offensively with nine kills and a .304 hitting percentage.
The Cyclones held a decisive 12-6 edge in blocks, led by Jamie Straube's two solo stuffs and three block assists. Straube also had nine kills and a .333 hitting percentage for the Cyclones, who hit .281 in the match.
Debbie Stadick chipped in five block assists to go along with nine kills and a .471 hitting percentage.
Iowa State was less than impressive out of the gates, falling behind 7-0 in the opening frame and eventually dropping the set 25-16. The Tigers hit .289 while holding the Cyclones to a .119 efficiency.
The second set was much better for the Cyclones, who hit .367 and went on to win 25-15. ISU led 5-4 but ran off six in a row to break it open. Henson finished the set with her fifth kill of the match as ISU tied it at 1-1 heading into the break.
Iowa State controlled the third and fourth sets, winning by totals of 25-18 and 25-19 to improve to .500 in the Big 12. The Cyclones trailed just once in the final two frames.
Missouri (9-3, 1-1) was led by Paola Ampudia's 15 kills. Brittney Brimmage chipped in 10 in the losing effort.
The Cyclones return to action Wednesday when they travel to face Baylor at 7 p.m.
