AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 9 Iowa State Cyclones lost a five-set thriller to 13th-ranked Texas on Wednesday night at Gregory Gym (25-17, 16-25, 25-12, 15-25, 11-15). Carly Jenson led the Cyclones with 13 kills and nine digs, ending her streak of four consecutive double-double performances.
The two teams traded sets through four before Texas found a higher gear in the fifth behind junior middle blocker Rachael Adams who put up 18 kills on the Cyclones while senior Juliann Faucette added 13 kills.
The Cyclones (10-3, 3-2 Big 12) had no answer for Adams, who hit .519 on the night. As a team, Texas (8-4, 3-1 Big 12) was held to a .243 hitting percentage.
Debbie Stadick had one solo block and three block assists on the night, giving her 200 career blocks and moving her to 26th all-time on the Iowa State career list. Jamie Straube posted five block assists, one short of her season high six.
Cyclone standout Victoria Henson continued her career struggles against the Longhorns, hitting just .114 with 11 kills. Henson was hitting .189 against Texas coming into Wednesday's match.
Defense was the storyfor both teams in the first two sets Wednesday. Iowa State had five blocks in their first set win, holding Texas to -.033 hitting. As the teams headed to the locker rooms, the Cyclones were only hitting .095 and Texas was connecting at a rate of .175.
Iowa State came alive in the third set behind Jenson and Henson, taking the set in dominant fashion after leading by 10 for most of the set.
The Longhorns turned the tables in the fourth set, taking their turn at large leads as they built leads of 17-8 and 20-10 before taking the 10-point win to force a fifth set.
