TEMPE, Ariz. – Iowa State beat Mesa Community College, 7-0, but fell 4-3 to UC Davis in women's college tennis.
“Today was pretty good,” Iowa State head coach Armando Espinosa said. “But we know that there are definitely things that we need to work on.”
Maria Macedo defeated UC Davis' Dahra Zamudio 6-3, 6-0 while her teammate Tessa Lang overtook Ellie Edles 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (5). Liza Wischer was the third Cyclone to prevail in singles, defeating Lauren Curry 6-4, 6-4.
“We have been trying different pairs for doubles.” Espinosa said, “One really worked out today."
Espinosa was referring to Jenna Langhorst and Simona Cacciuttolo, who secured the win over UC Davis' Dahra Zamudio and Nicole Koehly 8-6.
The Cyclones also competed in scrimmage play against Mesa Community College, sweeping the Thunderbirds 7-0. Results of the match against Mesa Community College were not immediately available.
Iowa State will continue spring play next weekend in Eugene, Ore. against Oregon and Montana.
