LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska's Lance Jeter tallied a key steal and converted one free-throw with 0:00.4 seconds left, as the Huskers escaped with a 63-62 win over Iowa State Saturday night in Lincoln, Neb. Iowa State falls to 13-3 overall and drops its first Big 12 game of the season.
It appeared the Cyclones would have the last shot of the game, but Diante Garrett had the ball stripped by Jeter with 0:04 seconds left. Jeter raced down the court and was fouled by Melvin Ejim just before time expired. He missed his first, but made the second.
The Cyclones held a 62-58 lead with 3:40 left in the game after a Garrett lay-in, but failed to score a point the rest of the way.
NU held a 12-point lead early in the second half, but a 16-2 run by Iowa State got the Cyclones back into the contest.
The Huskers held a 39-29 lead at the break. Garrett picked up his third foul of the game with just under eight minutes to go in the first half, forcing him on the bench for the rest of the half. NU increased its lead while Garrett sat. Caleb Walker had 11 points to pace NU at the end of the first stanza.
Garrett finished the game with 18 points to pace the Cyclones and Jake Anderson added nine points and 12 boards in the loss. The Cyclones shot 40.4 percent from the field for the game and had 14 turnovers.
Scott Christopherson saw action after missing the Northern Illinois game. Christopherson had six points, including back-to-back 3-pointers early in the second half.
ISU is back in action on Wednesday, playing host to Kansas in Hilton Coliseum. Tipoff is at 8 p.m.
