COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Senior Carly Jenson had 17 kills and 10 digs as the No. 15 Cyclones (16-3, 7-1 Big 12) ended Texas A&M's (16-5, 5-3) three-match win streak, and 7-0 mark at home, in four sets Saturday by the scores of 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23.
All the Cyclones got into the action as middle blocker Jamie Straube added 10 kills, Kristen Hahn posted 19 digs and Tenisha Matlock collected seven block assists, one shy of her career-best of eight, to go along with nine kills.
Rachel Hockaday and Alison Landwehr had 15 and 14 digs, respectively, as Landwehr recorded a double-double for the third-straight match, adding 44 assists. Landwehr passed the 2,000 assist marker in the win, now totaling 2,018 in her career.
Freshman Victoria Hurtt came off the bench for Iowa State for a career-high four block assists and posted six kills.
The Aggies never lead in game one as the Cyclones hit .300 en route to the first set win, led by senior Kelsey Petersen who had four kills on .500 hitting. Texas A&M's Alisia Kastmo led all scorers with five kills in the set.
In game two, Texas A&M refused to go away, trailing 18-14 late in the set but coming within one, down 23-22 before the Cyclones put away the set win on a kill from Jenson to take the 2-0 match lead into the locker rooms. Through two sets, Landwehr had already reached double-double status with 23 assists and 10 digs.
Texas A&M got its first lead of the night in game three, coming alive for the first time in the match to hit .316, the Aggies' first set percentage over .200 of the night. Kelsey Black and Lindsey Miller led the offensive charge with four kills apiece while Jenson added six kills for the Cyclones.
Game four followed the pattern set by the first three games as the teams tied five times, including 23-23, before a kill from Jenson and a ball handling error by Texas A&M setter Allie Sawatzky clinched the win for Iowa State.
Tori Mellinger paced the Aggies with 14 kills and 13 digs and libero Megan Pendergast had a team-high 17 digs.
On Wednesday the Cyclones are at home to host Kansas at 6:30 p.m. CDT on Metro Sports in Kansas City. The match will air on tape delay on the Mediacom Connections Channel (channel 22 in Ames) on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
