MANHATTAN, Kan. - Senior Carly Jenson collected 12 kills and 10 digs and junior Jamie Straube added 10 kills and three block assists as No. 16 Iowa State (13-3, 4-1 Big 12) swept Kansas State (13-5, 2-2) on the road Wednesday night.
Setter Alison Landwehr had 31 assists and 13 digs for the Cyclones and libero Kristen Hahn grabbed 23 digs, 20 through two sets.
Kansas State outside hitter Lilla Porubek paced the Wildcats with 11 kills, followed closely by junior Kathleen Ludwig who totaled 10 kills. Alex Muff was strong at the net for the home team, recording a solo block and a match-high four block assists.
Neither offense found its footing during the match as Iowa State ended with a .218 clip for the night and Kansas State hit .123, never cracking .200 hitting in any set.
The teams tied nine times during set one as Jenson led all hitters with five kills and Iowa State took the 1-0 lead on .213 hitting. Kansas State managed only .196 hitting although Ludwig, Kaitlynn Pelger and Courtney Traxson all connected for four kills each.
Iowa State jumped out to a 4-0 lead in set two before a run by the Wildcats cut the lead to 7-6. Although the Cyclones led all the way in the 25-21 win, Kansas State stayed close, not allowing the visitors to run away with the set. Neither offense was able to get going in the set, Iowa State hitting .167 and holding Kansas State to .024 hitting.
Set three was more of the same, the teams staying within two points of each other for most of the set before Iowa State pulled out the win for the sweep on a kill from right side Kelsey Petersen who finished with nine kills on .500 hitting.
On Saturday, Iowa State will face No. 22 Oklahoma in a 6:30 p.m. CDT match at Hilton Coliseum.
