AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer team was well represented on the 2011 Academic All-Big 12 team, as a program-record 13 Cyclones were honored. Junior midfielder Megan Long and sophomore defender Jessica Stewart headlined the honorees, as both earned 4.0 grade-point averages.
Iowa State's 13 honorees shattered the previous program mark of nine which had been achieved multiple times.
In addition to Long and Stewart, Iowa State had seven other members on the first-team squad. They were: senior midfielder Amanda Cacciatore, senior defender Emily Hejlik, senior defender Amanda Mayberry, senior defender Mary Kate McLaughlin, sophomore midfielder Margaret Powers, sophomore defender Meredith Skitt and junior defender Amanda Woelfel.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Iowa State had four other Cyclones earn second-team distinctions. They were: junior midfielder Kelsey Calvert, sophomore defender Caitlin Graboski, sophomore midfielder Erin Green and sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Jobe.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
