KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Iowa State soccer team earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for having at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 for the 2010-11 academic year. The award continues a sterling season of success in the classroom for the Cyclones, as Iowa State had a school-record 13 players earn Academic All-Big 12 honors this fall.
Junior midfielder Megan Long and sophomore defender Jessica Stewart both earned a 4.0 GPA.
"The recognition of our student-athletes' performance in the classroom is a reflection of their dedication and commitment as well as the time and energy of those that support their academic endeavors," Iowa State head coach Wendy Dillinger said. "It also shines light on the fact that our faculty here at ISU are engaging and understanding. What we do as a university on and off the field is paramount to preparing these young ladies to be strong leaders equipped to deal with the challenges they will face after college."
The NSCAA announced that a total of 789 soccer teams (218 men, 571 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 academic year.
