AMES, Iowa - An outside hitter from Waverly, Iowa, Morgan Kuhrt won four conference championships and two state titles, in 2009 and 2011, with the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks and averaged more than 4.00 kills per set as a senior. The outside hitter also won a national championship in 2011 with the Six Pack Club team.
"Morgan Kuhrt is a great athlete and outside hitter," head Cyclones coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. "She's a really nice all-around player who can play defense, pass and she can terminate. She's also a left side with a really nice blocking presence."
In Waverly-Shell Rocks' 3-1 state championship win over fellow 2012 Cyclone Natalie Vondrak and Bishop Heelan, Kuhrt posted a career-high 31 kills at an average of 7.80 kills per set, 14 digs and two solo blocks and was, unsurprisingly, named the player of the match. Never averaging fewer than 3.00 kills per set in any of her four seasons starting for the Go-Hawks, Kuhrt is the only incoming Cyclone to be named a PrepVolleyball.com Frosh 59, Soph 79 and as one of the next "150" in the class of 2012. Kuhrt was a PrepVolleyball.com All-American in 2010 and an Under Armour All-American in 2011.
A teammate of incoming Cyclone Mackenzie Bigbee on the Six Pack team, Kuhrt was named to the national all-tournament team along with Bigbee as the team captured the title.
Kuhrt, who ranked sixth in her class at Waverly-Shell Rock and was a member of the National Honors Society, is planning to study business at Iowa State.
