LINCOLN, Neb. – The Iowa State tennis team rounded out its regular season Saturday afternoon against the No. 38 Nebraska Huskers. Nebraska swept the match, defeating the Cyclones on their Senior Day, 7-0. Iowa State's regular season record finishes out at 10-15, 1-10 Big 12.
"Nebraska is a very, very good team," head coach Armando Espinosa said. "There were a few of the singles matches where we were ahead in the beginning, but we just couldn't close it."
Each of the singles matches, played first in the meet, went to Nebraska. The sole win for Iowa State of the day came from Erin Karonis and Simona Cacciuttolo at No. 2 doubles, who dominated against Madeleine Geibert and Abby Buxton to get the 8-3 win.
"Nebraska didn't have any added pressure going into the match, and I think that helped them out a little bit," Espinosa said."They were good, but I don't know that they were that much better than we were."
Iowa State will waste no time getting ready for the Big 12 Championships. The team departs for Waco, Texas on Tuesday for tournament preparation, with conference competition beginning Thursday morning.
