AMES, Iowa – Iowa State Tennis suffered a 5-2 loss to the No. 31 Kansas State Wildcats (12-4, 3-3) at home Sunday afternoon. The Cyclones' record now moves to 10-10 overall and 1-5 in the Big 12.
“It's disappointing,” Iowa State head coach
Armando Espinosa said. “We fought hard, and there's no question about that. We wanted this one, but at the end of the day, we just didn't capitalize on the opportunities we needed.”
Though the match did not go Iowa State's way in the end, the Cyclones saw improvement in some of their individual's duals today.
Marie-Christine Chartier, an Iowa State junior, enjoyed a 6-4, 6-0 victory over K-State's Nina Sertic in the No. 5 spot.
Liza Wischer, Iowa State's senior co-captain, captured No. 6 singles, quickly eliminating Carmen Bourau Ramos 6-1, 6-0. Teammates
Erin Karonis and
Simona Cacciuttolo secured No. 2 doubles, dueling Karla Bonacic and Antea Juljev for a score of 8-4.
Iowa State will hit the road to head south next weekend to face Texas Tech and Baylor. Duals begin against the Red Raiders first, starting at 4 p.m. Friday.
