LUBBOCK, Texas. – Iowa State tennis came up short against the No. 39 Lady Raiders of Texas Tech this afternoon. The Cyclones were defeated 6-1 at the McLeod Tennis Complex.
"They're a good team, they didn't give us an inch," head coach
Armando Espinosa said. "We got some points here and there, but we weren't able to string more than two in a row most of the time."
Coming off of her close three-set match loss against Kansas State last weekend,
Maria Fernanda Macedo redeemed herself today against the Lady Raiders. The Iowa State junior enjoyed the only Cyclone win of the day at No. 2 singles, when Macedo overtook Samantha Adams 6-4, 6-3.
"Maria adapted to the conditions really well," Espinosa stated. "She competed really well and found ways to win."
After today's win, Texas Tech tennis' record is 14-4 overall on the season, and the Lady Raiders are 4-1 in the conference. Iowa State's record moves to 10-11 overall, and the Cyclones are currently 1-6 in the Big 12.
The Iowa State student-athletes will move to Waco, Texas. on Sunday to face the No. 9 Baylor Lady Bears. Duals will begin at 1 p.m. CDT at the Baylor Tennis Center.
