AMES, Iowa - Former Iowa State soccer player Jordan Bishop provides the fourth installment of a summer blog about her experiences playing in the next step of her career.
Hey guys!
Last Saturday we won our game against New England Mutiny 2-0. It was a rough game not only because of their physicality, but because it was pouring the entire time. We were all drenched from head to toe! My former teammate and fellow cyclone, Adri O'Neill, was there with her parents in the rain for the whole game...awesome friends!
We had training every night this week with the exception of our game on Thursday. For Wednesday, we had practice at Harvard with the Breaker's coaching staff. After both teams had already played a full-field integrated scrimmage, I was asked to stay and train with the Breakers for their session as well. It was an exciting feeling to be asked and recognized to train with the Breakers. We played 4v4 with a lot of movement and quick touches. I can't iterate enough how fast the game is at this level. But all in all it was a long session, but a good one!
Thursday, we took on our rival the Aztec U-23 Team. We ended up tying 2-2. It was a hard-fought game, but we know when we play them again we will tackle harder, pass better and shoot more to ensure that "W". Before the game, I was asked by the coaching staff if I could attend the Breaker practice Friday morning as well, realizing Wednesday's training session was not just a one-time deal.
This morning, the Breaker players were focused on preparing for their big game Sunday against Atlanta. Raining the entire time, we played a few directional-style possession games and ended with finishing exercises. I have a game tomorrow against the New England Mutiny team we played and beat on Saturday. There will be better conditions, and they will look to be making up for their loss, but we'll be ready! This is also a very significant game because we will be sporting pink jerseys as we play for Breast Cancer Research, the survivors and those we have lost.
Our team will be site-seeing and experiencing more of the city once we get a little break after the next couple games. My vote is whale watching! Let me know if you have any suggestions!
Talk to you soon Cyclone Nation,
-J
