MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Iowa State soccer team conceded its first goal of the season and could not find a response to No. 22 Milwaukee Friday at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. In the end, the Cyclones fell 2-0 to the Panthers in a match in the Minnesota Gold Classic and saw their season record drop to 3-1-1.
Sophomore Emily Goldstein paced the Cyclones with a team-high four shots and tied for the team lead with one shot on goal.
The Panthers opened the scoring 21:29 into the match off a Sarah Hagen free kick. Kelly Lewers doubled Milwaukee's lead at the 55:43 mark.
Milwaukee (5-0-0) held a 17-10 shots advantage but only had six shots on goal to Iowa State's four. The Panthers held a narrow advantage on corner kicks at 7-6.
For the first time this season, the Cyclones had a pair of goalkeepers see action. Sophomore Maddie Jobe played the first 67:04, allowed two goals and registered a save. The Eden Prairie, Minn., native was credited with the loss, and her season mark fell to 3-1-1. Freshman Andrea Swanson played the final 22:56 and recorded two saves.
Iowa State had a season-high-tying 23 different players see action in the game, with eight of them being freshmen.
Iowa State's next match is Sunday at 10:30 a.m. against Georgia. The tilt will be the Cyclones' last match of the Minnesota Gold Classic.
