LAWRENCE, Kan. - Senior outside hitter Carly Jenson collected 15 kills and nine digs on Wednesday, leading the No. 16 Cyclones (12-2, 3-0 Big 12) to a straight-sets win over Kansas (11-3, 0-2). The sweep is the Cyclones' seventh of the season and marks the first 3-0 Big 12 start for Iowa State in program history.
Iowa State's .310 hitting clip was helped by Hannah Willms' nine kills and Tenisha Matlock's eight kills. Matlock added three block assists in the match.
Setter Alison Landwehr became the 10th player in school history to reach 1,800 assists with 35 assists on the night bringing the junior's career total of 1,813.
Set one was close and the Jayhawks held onto their lead until Iowa State tied the score at 21. Hitting .375 behind five kills each by Willms and Jenson, the Cyclones finished the comeback for the 1-0 lead.
Kansas took an early 6-2 lead in game two but the Cyclones rattled off 10 unanswered points on their way to the eight-point win going into the locker room. Jenson added four more kills in the set, leading all players with nine kills through two sets.
The Cyclones continued their hot streak in game three, hitting .290 and added three blocks for a total of five on the night on their way to a 25-15 decision.
Kansas was led by Caroline Jarmoc who recorded nine kills but hit .200 in the match, in stark contrast to her season average of .324. Outside hitter Allison Mayfield added seven kills, as did Tayler Tolefree.
On Sunday, the Cyclones are at home against No. 8 Texas at noon CDT at Hilton Coliseum. Sunday's match will be broadcast on ESPNU.
