BROOKINGS, S.D. – No. 21 Iowa State (14-7, 7-3 Big 12) finished its non-conference schedule with a sweep of South Dakota State (16-10, 8-5 Summit League) by the score of 25-22, 25-19, 25-22 at the Frost Center on Tuesday night for the team's fourth-straight win, tying a season-long streak.
Andie Malloy came off the bench for a career-high nine kills and .353 hitting. The freshman out of Allen, Texas also had an assist and a dig. Junior middle blocker
Tenisha Matlock also had nine kills for the Cyclones and hit .333.
SDSU was led by middle blocker Kaitlin Klingemann who had nine kills and eight block assists.
Iowa State led by late in game one, up 19-9 before SDSU went on a 13-5 run to get within two, down 24-22. Margit Hansing missed the back line to give Iowa State the 1-0 match lead. Iowa State hit .233 over the Jackrabbits' .184 in the set but was out-blocked 4-1. Klingemann had four block assists for SDSU and led the home team with four kills. Hurtt topped all players with five kills and Matlock added four.
It was back-and-forth in game two, with the teams trading four lead changes and tying eight times before Iowa State put away the win behind five kills from Bigbee, who was hitting .533 as the teams hit the locker rooms. Errors continued to plague the Jackrabbits, who committed five attack errors and allowed two aces from the Cyclones in the set.
The Cyclones fought hard in set three before securing the win. Bigbee added four kills to her performance and Hurtt was right behind her with three as Iowa State hit .286 for the second-straight set. SDSU hit above .200 for the first game of the night in the third, with a .279 average and only one attack error. The home team also blocked five balls in the game, ending the night with a 12-3 win in blocks.
Returning to Big 12 play, Iowa State hosts Texas Tech at 6:30 p.m. CST on Saturday, Nov. 3.
