AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer team had 18 players earn Academic All-Big 12 honors the league announced Tuesday. The Cyclones' 18 honorees is tops in the Big 12 and the most in program history. Junior Jessica Stewart led the Cyclones with a 4.0 grade-point average.
The previous record number of Academic All-Big 12 honorees for Iowa State was 13, set in 2011.
Senior Natalie Foulk, junior Maddie Jobe, senior Megan Longobardi, junior Susie Potterveld, junior Margaret Powers, junior Meredith Skitt, sophomore Andrea Swanson and senior Amanda Woelfel joined Stewart on the first team.
Sophomore Maggie Bruckman, sophomore Kaeli Flaska, sophomore Lindsay Frank, junior Emily Goldstein, junior Erin Green, junior Theresa Kucera, sophomore Addison Nokels, sophomore Alyssa Williamson and sophomore Hayley Womack earned second-team honors.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
