AMES, Iowa – Amanda Mayberry, a four-year letterwinner for the Iowa State soccer team, accepted an internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers for this upcoming summer. PricewaterhouseCoopers is regarded as the world's largest accounting firm and is headquartered in London. Mayberry will work in the company's office in Chicago in its risk-assurance practice starting in June.
A native of Ames, Mayberry is a three-time (2009, 2010, 2011) recipient of Academic All-Big 12 first-team honors and helped the Cyclones garner an NSCAA Team Academic Award this fall. She earned a 4.0 grade-point average during the fall after landing on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and being on the Iowa State Dean's List throughout her career.
“I am really excited because PWC is one of the best accounting firms,” Mayberry said. “In accounting, there are four big accounting firms and PWC is one of the largest. It will expose me to a lot of valuable experience for my future accounting career. When I visited there in December, I had the opportunity to network with professionals and it will help me a lot as I figure out a direction to take in accounting.”
Mayberry played 43 career matches in the Cyclone defense and cracked the starting lineup on 11 occasions. She was named the team's most improved player in 2008 and earned the Cyclone Excellence Award in 2010.
“Amanda epitomizes the selfless, team-first-mentality that every coach dreams about in a player,” Iowa State head coach Wendy Dillinger said. “Her commitment to her teammates and her community is a model for any person in any profession or field.”
Mayberry's contributions were not just felt on the field and in the classroom, as she was a vibrant member of the community. She served as a member of the Iowa State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), tutored in the Accounting Help Lab, coached for a local church basketball team, volunteered at the Food First Program, was a leader on the Lunch Committee for the College of Business Career Fair and coordinated efforts for the Volunteer Center of Story County.
