AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer team continued its hot start to the 2012 spring campaign this past weekend with a pair of wins inside the Bergstrom Indoor Training Facility. The Cyclones first downed Creighton 2-1 before handing South Dakota State a 4-1 loss in the nightcap.
The two wins improved Iowa State to 3-0 during the spring season.
Emily Goldstein gave Iowa State a 1-0 lead over Creighton off an assist from Jennifer Dominguez before the Blue Jays equalized in the second half. Dominguez provided the game-winning goal off an assist from Dominguez with just over five minutes remaining.
The Cyclones got off to a similar start in their second tilt when Addison Nokels scored the opener against South Dakota State early in the contest. Hayley Womack provided the assist to Nokels' goal. Womack doubled Iowa State's lead in the 14th minute when she capitalized on an assist from Kelsey Calvert.
South Dakota State made a match of it by tallying its lone goal in the 20th minute to close the gap to 2-1.
Dominguez continued her impressive day with a goal in the 25th minute to give Iowa State the 3-1 advantage. Womack gave Iowa State its final tally, and the goal gave the Quincy, Ill., native a five-point match. Kaeli Flaska assisted on Womack's second goal of the match.
"It was great to see such major contributions from our freshmen," Iowa State head coach Wendy Dillinger said. "Hayley Womack, (Addison) Nokels and Kaeli Flaska's relentless pursuit up top paid off. Maggie Bruckman, Lindsay Frank, Alyssa Williamson and Ashley Johnson were solid in the back, while Alyssa Elver saw action at outside midfield."
The Cyclones next match of the spring season is March 4 against Nebraska at 10 a.m. in the Bergstrom Indoor Training Facility.
