LUBBOCK, Texas - An early second half Texas Tech goal proved to be the difference in the Iowa State soccer team's 2-1 loss to the Red Raiders Sunday at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
Iowa State (8-6 overall, 0-3 Big 12 Conference) battled back to tie the match at one when junior Theresa Kucera converted a penalty kick 32:24 into the match. Kucera's goal was her second of the season and first in league action.
Kucera's goal cancelled out Texas Tech's tally that came 12:40 into the match when Janine Beckie found the back of the net.
The two teams would remain level at one at halftime.
The decisive Texas Tech (10-3 overall, 2-1 Big 12) strike came 9:11 into the second half off a goal from Paige Strahan. Beckie earned the assist on the goal to round out a three-point match.
Sophomore Andrea Swanson played the full 90 minutes at goalkeeper for the Cyclones and made a career-high nine saves.
The Red Raiders outshot the Cyclones 23-9 and also had 5-3 corner kick edge.
The Cyclones continue their league slate Friday with their second match ever against TCU. The Big 12 tilt will start at 7 p.m. CT and be played at the brand-new Cyclone Sports Complex. More information regarding the Cyclones moving to the Cyclone Sports Complex will be available Monday on Cyclones.com.
