AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State soccer team heads to Morgantown, W. Va. for a 6 p.m. game against the No. 16 Mountaineers at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Last time out
Iowa State ended both their games over the weekend in draws against the Kansas Jayhawks and the Drake Bulldogs. The Cyclones were led by senior goalkeeper Maddie Jobe, who was named Big 12 defensive player of the week for her heroics in the two game split. Iowa State looks to earn their first conference win of the season against the Mountaineers.
Scouting the Mountaineers
West Virginia (9-2-2) is led by Kate Schwindel and Frances Silva who are both tied for first in the Big 12 in goals scored with eight a piece. The Mountaineers are second in the Big 12 with 33 goals this season scoring 2.54 goals per game. West Virginia has allowed 18 goals defensively this season with an average of 1.38 per game. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series against the Cyclones 1-0 winning last year's contest 3-2.
What to watch for
The key matchup in this game will be how a strong Iowa State defense looks to shut down the potent West Virginia offense. Iowa State will look to last week's defensive player of the week Maddie Jobe to keep the Cyclone goal safe. Iowa State has registered five shutouts this season. West Virginia will look to their two offensive specialists Schwindel and Silva to attack the Cyclone goal.
